Compliance Timetable – 2025 Compliance Year

CLE compliance in Tennessee requires that an attorney has paid all fees and has either earned the required hours or claimed a valid exemption. Failure to do so by deadlines outlined in Supreme Court Rule 21 will result in additional fees.

November 2025

Commission sends Progress Reports via email to all Tennessee attorneys active with CLE  Commission.

December 31, 2025

Deadline for earning 2025 hours without penalty. Attorneys who do not establish compliance by Dec. 31 will be assessed a $100 fee, which will be indicated on the Annual Report Statement. Hours EARNED in 2025, but not yet REPORTED to the Commission will apply toward compliance. Providers have 30 days to report attendance.

February 28, 2026

Annual Report Statements emailed to attorneys. Be sure info@cle.tncourts.gov is added to your safe senders list.

March 31, 2026

Deadline for receipt of Annual Report Statements at the CLE office for attorneys who are short hours, owe money, or must claim an exemption. For those attorneys who are required to return an Annual Report Statement, a noncompliance fee of $100 will be assessed if the Annual Report Statement is filed late. Documents hand delivered, mailed or e-mailed to the CLE Commission must be physically at the Commission’s office by close of business on March 31, 2026.

April 30, 2026

Commission sends Notices of Noncompliance via certified mail to attorneys who remain noncompliant.

Attorneys eligible for an exemption, such as the non-resident exemption, who have not claimed a valid exemption must still file their online Annual Report Statement, claim the exemption, and pay any fees due. 

June 1, 2026

Deadline for establishing compliance by filing the Affidavit of Compliance or claiming a valid exemption. Compliance means the hours necessary for compliance have been reported or a valid exemption has been claimed AND all fees have been paid to the CLE Commission. Documents hand delivered, mailed or emailed to the CLE Commission must be at the Commission’s office by close of business on June 1, 2026. Failure to comply with this deadline will result in the imposition of the $200 continuing noncompliance penalty.

July 1, 2026

Commission submits a Draft Suspension Order to Supreme Court and sends a copy via certified mail to named attorneys.

August 10, 2026

For noncompliant attorneys, deadline for filing Affidavit of Compliance to avoid suspension. Documents must be at the Commission by close of business on August 10, 2026.

August 17, 2026

Commission submits the final Suspension Order to the Tennessee Supreme Court and assesses a $500 suspension fee to attorneys listed on the order.
